Winter 2018 Road Trip
The whole idea of this trip was to visit as many Sanpark resorts as possible given our restricted time frame of 10 days. Here’s the map

Ann and myself would depart on Day 1 for Calvinia where we normally stay over at Tarantula Guest House.

Day 2 and we are off to Hanover via Williston and Carnavon. Ann decided to post a letter before we leave….

Williston here we come….. But what a disappointment. Everything in town is closed and I cannot understand why as it is a normal Saturday morning. Will never visit this backward town ever again. Carnavon was our next stop on our way to Mokala Nastional Park near Kimberley.

We booked in at Hanover Hotel (their chalets) where Christo & Sonja from George joined us later that afternoon.

The state and cleanliness of our chalet was despicable. The carpet is near black with dirt and mould. It really looks disgusting.
Could not wait till morning to leave this dump and head for Mokala National Park (Day 3) where we would spend 3 days. However the road took us through Orania and what a blessed little town. Clean town with nice gardens and houses where the houses aren’t fitted with burglar bars. Nada. Not one burglar bar in town. Drove around town and visited some landmarks.

Weird straatname ook hier te vinde

We have always heard about Orania and now we can say we’ve been there. On to Mokala Nas Park where we’ll be spending 3 days.

The next day game driving we saw plenty buck all around. Even two males settling a dispute.

All rejuvenated we went to Kimberly the next day to visit the Big Hole.

Later that afternoon we did a Sunset drive

After having coffee and rusks the next morning we were off once again on our game drive.

We stopped for brunch and was greeted by some unexpected guests.

And before we knew it, the sun was setting.

We relocated to the main rest camp Mosu Lodge to allow us an early escape tomorrow morning to Camdeboo National Park.

So it is off to Camdeboo National Park where we opted for tent accommodation to live in for a day or two. Why not?

That night was one of the coldest night we have experienced in a very long time. This is the sight that greeted us the next morning

We left camp to visit Valley of Desolation.

The game drive in Camdeboo did not yield anything interesting, animals were few and far between. We were very disappointed and won’t return.

The following day we set off to Addo National Park and drove through Jansenville – never stopped there so one day we’ll have to go back so that Ann can do her Farmstyle Shopping

And we arrived safely at Addo Elephant National Park

That evening we had a casual braai and some drinks… and some more drinks…. and a few more…. Nag Stoffel.
Some pics we captured during the drive

And so did the Yellow Weavers…

That evening Christo made us Oxtail Potjie – was yummie!
Some more pics of the next day’s driving

And so the sun sets and brings a close to our Addo visit

Seriously early the next morning we parted ways with Christo & Somja and headed home.

To me Addo was the highlight of our trip – it is just another world.
